Geocache Description:

The Heanor Midland Station was a relatively short-lived affair.

The line from Ripley to Heanor was opened in 1890, and extended to join the Midland main line at Langley Mill in 1895. But by 1926 passenger services had ceased, and the track between Ripley and Heanor was removed in 1929. The track from Heanor to Langley Mill was retained for goods traffic until 1951.

Heanor Midland Station around 1910, showing the cutting with the platforms, the booking office at road level, and the road bridge.

So, there’s nothing left. Or is there? Almost opposite the cache site is a small park – that is where the platforms and track were, in a cutting which has since been filled in. To the right of the park there is a bungalow – it may not look it now, after lots of changes, but that was the booking office which you can see at the top of this old photo. And the wall opposite the park still contains much of the original stonework of the bridge which took the road over the railway.

This is a simple cache-and-dash, published on SideTracked Day 2021.
