Un anfiteatro vista mare. Eh già, negli anni di maggior sviluppo di Portus Lunae, l’Anfiteatro della città fondata dai romani era proprio vista mare. A noi non resta che immaginare la suggestione di una costruzione così imponente che si affacciava direttamente sul porto di Luni e dalla quale, a seconda dei punti di osservazione, era possibile scorgere l’azzurro del Tirreno o il bianco delle Apuane.
Poi a causa delle piene del Magra la vallata si è lentamente modificata e la linea di costa si è spostata. Oggi il mare dista circa 2 chilometri, ma i resti dell’Anfiteatro che ricorda il Colosseo contribuiscono ad alimentare la nostra immaginazione.
L’Anfiteatro fu costruito per ospitare circa 7.000 spettatori che assistevano principalmente a spettacoli con animali e gladiatori. Di forma ellittica, il suo asse maggiore misura 88,5 metri e l'asse minore 70,2 metri.
L’intera costruzione è stata realizzata in conglomerato cementizio. Alcuni elementi, però, furono rivestiti in pietra, in particolare le volte delle scale. Le porte principali, invece, furono rivestite con blocchetti regolari di calcare grigio e ciottoli di arenaria.
L’anfiteatro di Luni rappresenta il calco in miniatura dei grandi anfiteatri di epoca classica e conserva basi in muratura per statue, la cavea anche se non in buone condizioni e il portico su tre lati. Sono ancora ben riconoscibili la zona del pulpitum e della scena.
Come si conveniva al massimo edificio del capoluogo della regione produttrice del marmo preferito da Augusto, il suo fronte esterno ne era parzialmente rivestito, prima della probabile terminazione a portico. Se pensiamo che il marmo è “manto di Luna sulla terra” riusciamo ancora meglio ad andare indietro nel tempo e grazie ai resti ancora visibili ed alle ricostruzioni che troviamo nel Museo Archeologico di Luni ad immaginare tutto il grande gioiello architettonico splendente di marmo che era Portus Lunae.

An amphitheater overlooking the sea. Yep, in the years of greatest development of Portus Lunae, the amphitheater of the city founded by the Romans was just overlooking the sea. We just have to imagine the suggestion of such an imposing building that directly overlooked the port of Luni and from which, depending on the observation points, it was possible to see the blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea or the white of the Apuan Alps.
Then, due to the floods of the Magra, the valley slowly changed and the coastline shifted. Today the sea is about 2 kilometers away, but the remains of the amphitheater that resembles the Colosseum help fuel our imagination.
The Amphitheater was built to accommodate about 7,000 spectators who mainly attended shows with animals and gladiators. Elliptical in shape, its major axis measures 88.5 meters and the minor axis 70.2 meters.
The entire building was built in cement conglomerate. Some elements, however, were covered in stone, in particular the vaults of the stairs. The main doors, on the other hand, were lined with regular blocks of gray limestone and sandstone pebbles.
The Luni amphitheater represents the miniature cast of the great amphitheaters of the classical era and retains masonry bases for statues, the cavea, although not in good condition, and the portico on three sides. The area of the pulpitum and the scene are still well recognizable.
As befits the largest building in the capital of the region producing the marble preferred by Augustus, its external façade was partially covered with it, before the probable termination in a portico. If we think that marble is the "mantle of the Moon on earth" we are even better able to go back in time and thanks to the remains still visible and the reconstructions that we find in the Archaeological Museum of Luni, we can imagine all the great splendid architectural jewel of marble that was Portus Lunae.

Ein Amphitheater mit Blick auf das Meer. Ja, in den Jahren der größten Entwicklung von Portus Lunae lag das Amphitheater der von den Römern gegründeten Stadt gerade über dem Meer. Man muss sich nur die Andeutung eines so imposanten Gebäudes vorstellen, das direkt den Hafen von Luni überblickt und von dem man je nach Aussichtspunkt das Blau des Tyrrhenischen Meeres oder das Weiß der Apuanischen Alpen sehen konnte.
Dann veränderte sich das Tal aufgrund der Überschwemmungen der Magra langsam und die Küstenlinie verschiebt sich. Heute ist das Meer etwa 2 Kilometer entfernt, aber die Überreste des Amphitheaters, das dem Kolosseum ähnelt, regen unsere Fantasie an.
Das Amphitheater wurde gebaut, um etwa 7.000 Zuschauern Platz zu bieten, die hauptsächlich Shows mit Tieren und Gladiatoren besuchten. Seine Hauptachse ist elliptisch geformt und misst 88,5 Meter und die Nebenachse 70,2 Meter.
Das gesamte Gebäude wurde in Zementkonglomerat gebaut. Einige Elemente wurden jedoch mit Stein verkleidet, insbesondere die Gewölbe der Treppen. Die Haupttüren hingegen waren mit regelmäßigen Blöcken aus grauem Kalkstein und Sandsteinkieseln ausgekleidet.
Das Amphitheater Luni stellt den Miniaturabguss der großen Amphitheater der Klassik dar und enthält gemauerte Sockel für Statuen, die Cavea, wenn auch nicht in gutem Zustand, und den Portikus an drei Seiten. Der Bereich der Kanzel und die Szene sind noch gut erkennbar.
Wie es sich für das größte Gebäude der Hauptstadt der Region gehört, das den von Augustus bevorzugten Marmor herstellt, wurde seine Außenfassade teilweise damit verkleidet, bevor er wahrscheinlich in einem Portikus endet. Wenn wir denken, dass Marmor der "Mantel des Mondes auf der Erde" ist, können wir noch besser in die Vergangenheit reisen und dank der noch sichtbaren Überreste und Rekonstruktionen, die wir im Archäologischen Museum von Luni finden, können wir uns all die großartigen vorstellen prächtiges architektonisches Juwel aus Marmor, das Portus Lunae war.
