The Drift was actually offically known as East Chevington Village but due to the drift mine, The Drift name stuck with locals. The mine operated from 1882 -1962, before being demolished to make room for an opencast mine. All the houses here were demolished but a large stone a small memorial have been hidden in the trees so locals can come and pay respects to some of the pitman from the area. A small seat is also here which in the summer months is a beautiful place to sit and take in some sun.
This area can get VERY muddy at the enterance on wetter days so please be aware!! The rock is sign posted and is accessable for a drive by but caution should be taken as this road is a single track and hard to pass in places.
