Cache is at the edge of a farmer’s field with permission of the owner. Deer are usually seen in the field with up to 20 having been seen at once. This is a dream field for the deer, but not for the farmer as the deer cause a significant amount of loss whatever the crop. His family has been farming this field for 3 generations and are accustomed to the deer, but the problem has increased significantly as the deer have very much acclimated to life in the big city. Well, in Coupeville anyway. Their numbers have increased to the point that Coupeville has outlawed the feeding of deer as they are considered a nuisance by many residents.
In the past this field was used for growing hybrid cabbage seed - Washington at one time supplied 25% of the world’s cabbage seed.
