Geocache Description:

Quilters and mathematicians share a varied skill set encompassing mathematical topics such as numbers, algebra, geometry, symmetry, tiling, measurement, and problem solving, to name just a few.

----------------

Some of these topics may come in handy as you explore the variety and beauty of patterns created by rotating and repeating quilt blocks on a grid.

Completion of the first two puzzles
in this series might help you with this puzzle.

NOTE: The orientation of the QUILT BLOCKs and the INSERT's arrows in this puzzle
match the orientation of the QUILT BLOCKS and the INSERT's arrow in the previous puzzles.

-----------SETUP--------------

The 4 links below will lead you to pictures of the equipment used to create this puzzle. Understanding how the PATTERN BOARD works will help with your solution.

One PATTERN BOARD (FRONT and BACK)

Two QUILT BLOCKS

One INSERT with a QUILT BLOCK (FRONT, BACK, SIDE)

PATTERN BOARD with INSERT and QUILT BLOCK (FRONT, BACK, SIDE)

-----------STORYLINE--------------

Intent on sharing their love of
quilting, spatial reasoning, and geocaching,
the five quilting BEANIE BABIES, pictured below,
have made a puzzle just for you.

Each BEANIE BABY has created a unique QUILT PATTERN
using one of the two QUILT BLOCKS linked to above.

-----------PUZZLE--------------

Using the 16 QUILT PATTERNS and
the 7 clues shown below,
match each of the BEANIE BABIES
with their unique QUILT PATTERN.

1. Only PINK BEAR and one other BEANIE BABY use the half and half QUILT BLOCK.

2. BLUEBIRD's QUILT PATTERN and QUILT PATTERN D have the same QUILT PATTERN TOTAL*.

3. TURKEY does NOT use the half and half QUILT BLOCK and TURKEY does have the most common QUILT PATTERN TOTAL.

4. The sum of UNICORN's COLUMN #1 digits is equal to five and the sum of TURKEY's ROW #3 digits is an even number.

5. None of the BEANIE BABIES have the same QUILT PATTERN TOTAL.

6. BROWN BEAR does not have any 3s in its QUILT PATTERN digits.

7. PINK BEAR’s QUILT PATTERN TOTAL is greater than UNICORN’s QUILT PATTERN TOTAL.

(*Adding up the 12 position digits
on the back of a QUILT PATTERN
gives the QUILT PATTERN TOTAL.)

-------------SOLUTION------------

To generate your SOLUTION for the CERTITUDE CHECKER
you will need to create a string of data for each BEANIE BABY,
using these three bits of information:

1. The name of the BEANIE BABY.
2. The letter of the BEANIE BABY's matching QUILT PATTERN.
3. The sum of the digits in COLUMN #1 of the BEANIE BABY’s QUILT PATTERN.

EXAMPLE: unicornA7

---------------

Once you have created a data string for each BEANIE BABY,
then you will need to arrange your 5 data strings into one long data string.
This is what you will enter into the CERTITUDE CHECKER.

(NOTE: Arrange your BEANIE BABY data strings
in order (L to R) from the one with the smallest QUILT PATTERN TOTAL
to the one with the largest QUILT PATTERN TOTAL.)

-----------CERTITUDE CHECKER--------------

Your CERTITUDE answer can use majuscules or miniscules,
but there should not be any spaces in your final data string.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

-----------ADDITIONAL CHALLENGES--------------

Here are the caches in this series:

GC9XAYX, Quilt Block 1

GC9XAYP, Quilt Block 2

GC9F3FP, Quilt Block Logic

We recommend doing them in order from top to bottom.

-----------POTPOURRI--------------

We have provided a DIGIT PATTERN GRID, with sixteen 4x3 grids,
to help you with the creation of your puzzle solution.
