Um dos maiores bluesmen que já existiu foi Robert Johnson (8 de maio de 1911 - 16 de agosto de 1938). Ele tinha apenas 27 anos quando morreu e gravou apenas 29 canções. Mas essas canções têm sido de grande importância para o rock and roll e inspiraram grandes músicos de blues como Eric Clapton e muitos mais. Suas canções foram gravadas muitas vezes por muitos artistas, como o mencionado Eric Clapton, mas também, por exemplo, os Rolling Stones e muitos mais e seus licks de guitarra foram emprestados muitas vezes por outros guitarristas.
Uma das canções de Robert Johnson criou uma verdadeira lenda. Isso é “Cross Road Blues”.
A lenda conta que uma noite Robert Johnson foi a uma encruzilhada fora da cidade em que vivia naquele momento e fez um trato com o diabo. Robert seria o melhor guitarrista de blues que já viveu e viverá em troca de sua alma.
A morte de Robert ainda é um mistério. Seu falecimento nunca foi relatado publicamente. Depois de muita pesquisa nos últimos anos, um obituário foi encontrado. Apenas informando a data da morte, mas não a causa. Até hoje, a localização do túmulo de Robert é desconhecida.
A lenda ainda é contada até hoje.
Em 1986 foi lançado um filme baseado nesta lenda. A história é sobre um jovem guitarrista (Eugene Martone) cujo coração vai para o blues.
Ele ouviu dizer que Robert Johnson não gravou 29, mas 30 canções, e quer sair em busca dessa canção perdida. Ele conta com a ajuda do velho bluesman Willie Brown (citado em uma das canções de Johnson). O filme termina com um duelo de guitarras entre Eugene e um guitarrista do demônio (Steve Vai)

One of he greatest bluesmen that ever lived was Robert Johnson (May 8, 1911 – August 16, 1938).
He was only 27 when he died and he only recorded 29 songs. But these songs have been of great importance to rock and roll music and inpired great blues players like Eric Clapton and many more. His songs have been covered many times by many artists like forementioned Eric Clapton but also e.g. the Rolling Stones and many more and his guitar licks have been borrowed many times by other guitarplayers.
One of the songs of Robert Johnson created a real legend. This song is “Cross Road Blues”.
The legend states that one night Robert Johnson went to a crossroad outside the town where he was living at that moment and made a deal with the devil. Robert would be the best blues guitar player that ever lived an will ever live in exchange for his soul. Robert´s death is still a mystery. His passing away was never reported publicly. After a lot of research in later years, an obituary was found. Only stating the date of death but not the cause. Until today, the location of Robert´s grave is unknown.
The legend is still told until today.
In 1986 a movie was issued, based on this legend. The story is about a young guitar player (Eugene Martone) whose heart goes out to the blues. He heard that Robert Johnson did not record 29 but 30 songs and he wants to go searching for this lost song. He gets the help of old bluesman Willie Brown (mentioned in one of Johnson´s songs). The movie ends with a guitar duel between Eugene and a guitar player owned by the devil (Steve Vai)
