Coward Springs is one of many Mound Springs which were the basis for the choice of the routes for the Oodnadatta Track, the Old Ghan Railway, the Overland Telegraph Line. This is not surprising as the Springs were along a route known to the local indigenous population for thousands of years.
When we visited recently, we felt that in many ways this area is still a true oasis.
And while you are in the area, now you can also find a cache.
