Geocache Description:

A must Read

Once again ignore the above UTM and Lat/Long instead think about this.
Two American sailing buddies like to race each other. They also like Geocaching. They decide that they will start a race but at equal distances apart. They’ll agree in advance who will start where. As it turns out “Clint” one of the sailors will be fighting strong currents and “Palladin” the other sailor will be fighting heavy seas. These two are totally honest, they never cheat. They both have Globalstar satellite phones and are in contact with each other.
Clint will start at UTM 10u E 498953 N 5421200 and Palladin will start at UTM 10u E 525978 N 5328764 (both like UTM over Lat/Long).
They’ve agreed to sail to a benchmark a couple of hundred feet from the waters edge (approximately) this benchmark was established in 1955. This date is stamped on the benchmark.
From his starting point Clint will go on a compass course of 200 degrees 17 minutes 22.2360 seconds true.
Palladin will go on a compass course of 307 degrees 22 minutes 19.3223 seconds true.
These “Old Pros” know all about compass declination. When they get close to the benchmark, they’ll have to anchor their boats and swim ashore. (These guys are rugged - they’ve been in a lot of triathalons)
Once they reach the benchmark (on public property) they’ll confirm its UTM. You’ll have to do the same thing.
What is the UTM of this benchmark? (located on a high point placed in solid rock)
Presuming a round world in WGS-84 using the GRS 80 ellipsoid.
Now you, the Geocacher can take part in the same race that Clint and Palladin are in - - - Racing to the Geocache site.
This cache “Testing to Destruction” contains several items including CD’s and $25.00 in Canadian Loonies. Remember to seal the cache when your finished. We’re putting all new caches in zip lock bags to keep out moisture. We’ve tested many different types of containers and have found the ones with screw on lids seem to work best.
So when you’ve figured out the UTM of the benchmark, and now presuming the world is “Flat” proceed from the benchmark 1494 meters East and 2036 meters North. There you will find the intersection of two trails. Figure out the UTM of the centre of this intersection, then presuming the world is still “Flat”, from the UTM you’ve figured out go 75 meters East and 439 meters North to the actual cache located under the S.E. corner of a man made object. All positions are in “Public Areas”. You do not have to go onto private property to access this cache or proceed to the various positions. By the way “Clint” and “palladin” never made it to the cahe! Enroute they met two gorgeous twin sisters, and were last seen heading towards the San Juan Islands.
