The current Covid-19 pandemic has been difficult for the Geocaching community and curtailed many of our usual activities and events. Sadly we have also lost a number of caching friends along the way. This event is dedicated to the memory of one of these friends - Mike Condy "Mooiman". Mike was one of those ' larger than life' characters, and everyone will recall his hearty laugh, followed by his signature "moooooi mannn" at our events!
Mike's family requested that friends and family plant an indigenous tree in memory of him. Which got me thinking - why not host an event during Arbor Week, where his Geocaching friends could honour this request. Planting a grove of trees at a local Scout Hall, where the Scouts would water and look after the trees afterwards, would be a fitting tribute. I'm sure Mike, a former Scout in his youth, would agree.
When : Sunday, 5th September at 3:30pm.
Where : 1st Bryanston Scout Hall - 40 West Hertford Road, Bryanston.
Bring : Your choice of indigenous tree or shrub, spade and some fertiliser.
As an additional bonus, cachers may want to consider using this actvity to qualify for the 'Let’s improve the outdoors - Locationless Cache' GC8NEAT challenge. Specific logging requirements apply, so please make sure that you read them before hand on the cache listing.
