In this mystery cache you will learn something about Icelandic music. There is actually no need to go to the posted coordinates, but I highly recommend it - since they're located at the Icelandic concert hall 'Harpa', which has a truly fascinating architecture. The outer glass front was designed by the famous Danish-Icelandic artist Ólafur Eliasson. Iceland has always had a very rich music life, and still it was only recently that the local Symphony Orchestra got to play regularly in a proper concert hall here at Harpa, instead of the big cinema hall which they had to use before that. By the way: there is only one real Icelandic musical instrument and that is the 'langspil', a sort of basic violin made out of a wooden box. You should check it out. It sounds strange! But now let's take a look at the six questions you will need to answer to find this cache:
A: As mentioned above the concert hall 'Harpa' has opened only recently. What year was that? Please calculate the checksum of this number.
B: Like any other big architecture project 'Harpa' had a significant cost. Please find out that number (in €!) and divide it by 4.000.000.
C: Probably the most famous Icelandic musician today would be the singer Björk Guðmundsdóttir. She has already been active as a musician here in Iceland since she was a kid. But there was one band in particular, prior to her solo career, that she had most international success with. How many letters are in the name of that band (without "the")?
D: In 1993 Björk released her first album as an international solo artist. How many studio albums (including that first one) has she released ever since?
E: The Icelandic national anthem is a strange one. The text tells a story about a dying flower, worshipping its god. The anthem was composed in 1874. Who was the composer of the anthem's music? Please divide the number of letters in that name by 3.
F: In 1861 the important Icelandic composer Jón Leifs wrote an orchestra piece named after a famous Icelandic volcano. The piece is maybe his most famous work internationally today. Which opus number does it have?
Once you have answered all the questions and written down the resulting numbers, you can now find out the final coordinates. Just add the numbers to the following formula and calculate the rest. Good luck!
N 64º 0E.(((B + F - 3) x C) + ((D x 7) + 1))
W 021º (F + A).((F - 1) x C)
Once you have the coordinates take a look at the hint as well!
