Geocache Description:

We "The Sandokannetjes" love to travel to Greece, so also in the summmer of 2021 we did.
We visited beautiful areas and places and decided to hide some caches on places we think you have to visit.

Today we walked the gorge of Lousios and visited the monastery of Prodromou for the 2nd time.
The first time we were here we were really blown away. Such a beautiful place, stuck into the rocks.
So we decided we had to ga back and here we are!
In the monastery we were welcomed with a Greek coffee, icecold water, loukoumi and Greek cookies. So nice!
And the little dark church inside is really amazing!

More about the monastery:
The Moni Timíou Prodrómou is a famous Greek monastery, particularly picturesquely located on the eastern bank of the Lousios Gorge. Today it still houses an important monk community (± 15 monks), and can be reached from Stemnitsa and Dimitsana via a particularly winding and not too good road. According to tradition, it was founded in 1167 by Emperor Manuel Comnenus, but reliable sources place the foundation of the current monastery rather somewhere in the 16th century. It is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, who in the Orthodox tradition is commonly called Pródromos, i.e. Forerunner (of Christ). The monastery complex has two churches. The oldest is very small (only 2.25 x 4.90 m) and lies against the rock wall. The peculiar arrangement of the iconostasis (which forms an angle of ± 45° with the nave) can be explained by the lack of available space. The frescoes were applied directly to the rock face in the late 16th / early 17th century. Around this little church, the other monastic buildings were gradually built, whose balconies hang high above the Lousios gorge. A second church, of less architectural importance, is of more recent date (1911), and is isolated at a distance from the other buildings. It is dedicated to the Orthodox saint Athanasios of Christianoupolis, who lived around the beginning of the 18th century and was buried in the monastery after his death.
From here one can descend on a footpath to the bed of the Lousios, and from there reach the nearby Monastery of the Philosopher.

The cache:
It's a small box with a logbook inside. There is no pencil, so take a pencil with you!
The cache is hidden within 5 minutes from the monastery near the path.
To grab it you have to do a little bit of climbing.
If you need it, there is a spoiler picture.
PLEASE CLOSE THE BOX CAREFULLY!!

Our suggestion:
If you have time, you really should hike the whole gorge from Stemnitsa to Dimitsana and take a taxi to go back.

Enjoy life,
Enjoy caching!!
