This road was used by fur traders and was an Ox Cart trail from Upper Fort Garry southward to meet other trails to Fort Daer (Pembina) North Dakota in the 1800s. It was paved in the 1920s and named the Lord Selkirk Highway in the early 1930s and assigned Provincial Trunk Highway No. 14. The northerly portion of the original route is now Turnbull Drive in Winnipeg and Red River Drive in the RM of Ritchot.
The cache is a small bison tube hidden close to the historical site marker.
