This Cache

This cache IS at the posted coordinates.

You will need a 9V battery for this cache.

There are two locks on this cache.  The combination to the outer lock is 1735

You won't have any problems finding this cache!! It's a big green box!  However, getting to the log will require that you solve a bit of a puzzle!

NOTE:  NO FORCE IS REQUIRED TO OPEN THIS CACHE!  PLEASE BE GENTLE!!

You will now need to insert red or green marbles into the cache to activate all the lights.  You will have to determine the exact sequence of red and green marbles that will light up the tree!  Once the tree is fully lit up, the combination to the lock will be revealed!

There is a computer inside that resets the combinatio of red and green marbles each time a new game is started (when a battery is inserted).  It may not be the same combination as others have found!

This is a Letterbox-Hybrid cache.  Inside you will find a stamp and inkpad (separate from the stamp for the JCAT passports).  Do NOT remove the stamp from the cache.  This is not SWAG.

About the Jackson County Agritourism Geo-Trail

The Jackson County Agritourism Geo-Trail (established 2021) is a fun trail taking you to Agritourism sites around Jackson County.  Each site will highlight an agritourism feature!

The trail consists of 14 unique "gadget" caches.

Before you start, print a copy of the JCAT Passport (Link), or pick up a copy at one of the following locations:

Site Name Address
Crawford Long Museum 28 College St, Jefferson, GA 30549
Braselton Downtown Development Authority  9924 Davis St #8, Braselton, GA 30517
Jackson County Chamber of Commerce 270 Athens St, Jefferson, GA 30549
Historic Courthouse of Jackson County  85 Washington St, Jefferson, GA 30549

At each of the 14 stops, you will find a unique gadget cache. These caches will all be super-easy to find but will require you to solve some sort of "puzzle" to sign the logbook.

Each cache in the series is numbered (JCAT-01, for example).  After you sign the log for each cache, you will find a stamp and inkpad inside the cache.  Find the spot on your passport that corresponds to the stop number and stamp the passport.  When you find all 14 caches and complete the passport, you can trade it in for a free trackable tag (while quantities last)!  Additionally, you will have the opportunity to purchase a deluxe trackable coin.

You can turn in your completed passport at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce (See address above).  The Chamber is normally open M-F, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.  Hours are subject to change.  Check with the Chamber before heading out.  For the kickoff weekend, there will be additional places to pick up tags.  See event communications for more details...

Note that there is no charge to get a passport, visit any of the cache sites, log any of the caches, or collect your trackable tag!

Featured Agricultural Item

On each cache page, we highlight one agricultural component.  For this cache, the featured item is Christmas trees!

There are about 350 million Christmas trees growing on farms across the country!  Christmas tree farms can be found in all 50 states!  Georgia ranks #11 in U.S. Christmas tree production, and Jackson County is ranked #7 in Georgia counties!

Christmas trees typically grow from 4 to 15 years (The variance is due to specific variety and weather conditions).  The average tree takes 7 years to reach its optimal height of 6-7 feet.  For every tree harvested, 1-3 new saplings are planted the following spring!

Additional Notes (SPOILERS!!)

Some of the gadget caches can be a little tricky.  While we want you to enjoy figuring them out, we definitely don’t want you to get stuck, so to make sure you complete the cache, we are giving you some major spoilers here and telling you how to solve the field puzzle.  To increase the challenge, avoid reading this section!!

This is one of the tougher caches on the trail, so no shame in looking at the detailed hint!

Start by selecting a red or green marble (remember which one you chose!) and insert it into the hole in the top, right-hand corner of the cache.  If the lights at the bottom turn on, you picked the correct one.  If not, then choose the color you didn't choose previously!  Repeat this for four balls until all four sections of the tree are lit up.  Note that if you make an error, any existing lights will turn off and you will have to start the sequence over.

After you successfully pick the correct 4 colors, the lights will start flashing.  Starting at the bottom, count the number of times each section flashes.  This will be the combination to the lock!

There is a computer inside that resets the combination of red and green marbles each time a new game is started (when a battery is inserted).  It may not be the same combination as others have found!
