This cache is part of the Floodplain Loop, a group of caches of various sizes and difficulties located on the Floodplain Trail, a significant distance from the Visitor Center. There are a couple larger caches but this loop has primarily smaller bison tubes and preforms with room for only the log and a coin or two. Several of these are significantly harder than the caches closer to the Visitor Center - but the cache name can often be used as a clue.
Caches are generally located near the trail, with just a few exceptions, and no bushwhacking is required to get from cache to cache. (If you find any orange pill bottles, those are old caches which can be removed.) Stay alert for cyclists, as the trail is multi-use and can be used by mountain bikers.
If you start from the Visitor Center and hike just the portion of trail required to find this cache group, you can expect to hike 3.5 to 4 miles. The full perimeter length of the Floodplain Trail itself is approximately 5 miles. Once you start into the eastern-most portion which goes around the grazing pastures, there is no opportunity to cut the hike short. This trail traverses the most remote area of the Park.
