Before we take the trip around the world, it is nice to have some information about the different parts of the world that we are going to.

Europe is a continent that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Ural Mountains in the east; and from the Mediterranean in the south to the North Pole. It makes up the western third of the continent of Eurasia. Since the 18th century, the border between Europe and Asia has been widely considered to run along the Urals; first the mountain range and then the river; The Caspian Sea, the Manytj depression north of the Caucasus, possibly the Caucasus mountain range, the Black Sea, the Bosphorus, the Marmara Sea and the Dardanelles.

The idea that Europe is a continent is not universally accepted. Some non-European texts refer to a Eurasian continent, or to a European subcontinent, because Europe is not surrounded by sea and is far more of a cultural than a geographically defined area.

The continent's many different geological landforms contributed to the fact that different nations throughout history established themselves in Europe and were kept separate for a long time.
