Skandinavien / Scandinavia

  Inden vi tager turen jorden rundt, så er det rart at have lidt information omkring de forskellige verdensdele, som vi skal rundt til. 

Skandinavien betegner et landområde i det nordlige Europa, som består af Danmark, Norge og Sverige.

Den præcise afgrænsning afhænger af, om man læner sig op ad den moderne brug af udtrykket, eller om man baserer sin antagelse på ordet “Skandinavien”, som optræder på skrift første gang i romeren Plinius den Ældres Naturalis Historia fra 77 e.Kr. Sprogforskere mener, at ordet Skandinavien har samme udspring som det old­germanske ord Skåne. Det betød muligvis “farlig ø”.

Plinius beskrev netop “Scatinavia” som én af 23 øer mod nord. I det efterfølgende århundrede hævdede Claudius Ptolemæus, at Skandinavien var den største af de tre “skandiske øer” øst for det nuværende Jylland. Romerne var formentlig ikke klar over, at det nuværende Sverige og Norge er landfast med resten af det europæiske kontinent.

På dansk omfatter Skandinavien i dag Danmark, Norge og Sverige, mens den skandinaviske halvø kun er betegnelsen for Norge og Sverige. Dette område kaldes sammen med Grønland, Færøerne, Island og Finland for Norden. På f.eks. engelsk kan ordet Scandinavia henvise både til Skandinavien og Norden.

  Before we take the trip around the world, it is nice to have some information about the different parts of the world that we are going to.

Scandinavia denotes a land area in northern Europe, which consists of Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

The exact delimitation depends on whether one leans on the modern use of the term, or whether one bases one's assumption on the word "Scandinavia", which appears in writing for the first time in the Roman Pliny the Elder's Naturalis Historia from 77 AD. Linguists believe that the word Scandinavia has the same origin as the Old Germanic word Skåne. It possibly meant "dangerous island".

Pliny just described "Scatinavia" as one of 23 islands to the north. In the following century, Claudius Ptolemy claimed that Scandinavia was the largest of the three "Scandinavian islands" east of present-day Jutland. The Romans were probably not aware that present-day Sweden and Norway are landlocked with the rest of the European continent.

In Danish, Scandinavia today includes Denmark, Norway and Sweden, while the Scandinavian peninsula is only the name for Norway and Sweden. This area, together with Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Finland, is called the Nordic region. On e.g. English, the word Scandinavia can refer to both Scandinavia and the Nordic countries.

Vejen til post huset / The road to the post office

   Du står på parkeringspladsen ved post huset, men hvor er den:

1. Gå af stien der fører mod Nord / Nordvest

2. Følg stien til venstre når den deler sig .... hov, er det posthuset vi har på højre hånd ?? nej desværre er det kun forsamlingshuset.

3. Fortsæt forbi forsamlingshuset og du finder posthuset i det første og nærmeste store træ på højre hånd.  Der er stempel og lille stempelpude på posthuset. 

  You are standing in the parking lot by the post house, but where is it:

1. Take the path that leads to the North / Northwest

2. Follow the path to the left when it splits .... hey, is that the post office we have on the right hand side ?? no unfortunately it is only the assembly house.

3. Continue past the assembly hall and you will find the post office in the first and nearest large tree on the right hand side. There is a stamp and a small stamp pad at the post office.
