MORRISON FALLS

Morrison Falls, (or "No Fun Falls," the name given to it by rafters and kayakers,) is a 15 foot tall wall of water that thunders over Bear Creek. Though it is right next to CO 74 and only 5 minutes away from the town of Morrison, few know of its existence.

While browsing through my GPSr's "find" feature, which I often do to find hidden gems of geological interest, I stumbled across a point just simply named "Waterfall," and it was only 12 miles away from Littleton. I was really surprised! One: it wasn't on the World Waterfall Database despite being prominently marked on many maps (other than my GPSr's,) and two: it was so close to Denver that it was hard to believe it hadn't really been documented. So I set out to find it, and decided to name it myself: "Morrison Falls." I found out later that there was a single entry on American White Water, as well as a very low quality video from 2009 on YouTube, calling this waterfall "No Fun Falls." I hate that name, so I have decided to ignore that!

This is a great little adventure for anyone who wants to go waterfall hunting without driving too far from the Denver metro area. For another close-ish falls, check out Clear Creek Canyon Falls near Golden. There's a cache in the series there, though that one is much more difficult to get to!

Anyways, as always, here is how to find this cache:

HOW TO FIND:

From the pullout/trailhead, it's marked in waypoints. Find this social trail that winds its way down to Bear Creek. The falls is only about .25 miles away.

The social trail splits down by the creek. This spot is often used by fisherman, and most people do not go to the falls. Turn right on a lesser defined trail that eventually takes you to the falls.

For the most part, the trail is pretty well defined! However, it does get overgrown in spots. If you ever lose the trail, just keep going upstream.

After following the trail for a bit, you will find Morrison Falls. The cache is nearby!

Locate this rock wall just about 300 feet downstream from the falls. The cache is behind the rock in the square.\

A closer look! Happy finding!
