Coral cactus grows as a branching shrub 1 – 1.5m high. The stems of the plant are divided into green, cylindrical cladodes or pads. Mature cladodes often become twisted and distorted, resembling a piece of coral. The areoles of the cladode grow short white spines. Coral cactus is also known as Boxing Glove cactus.
