GAGB 2021 CITO Week

This is just one of the many events to be be held across the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man and Channel Islands as part of the GAGB CITO Week.

Come along and earn a souvenir in the 2nd CITO season 2021.
CITO 2021, Season 2 (Wednesday, September 1 through Tuesday, November 30, 2021)

Norwegian Church, Britannia Park, Cardiff Bay CF10
Tuesday 21st September, 5.45pm-7pm

Location:

Britannia Park is the only green space in Cardiff Bay. This small park was created in 1993 as a vital part of the regeneration of Cardiff docklands. It is much loved by local residents and workers, as well as by visitors. Most homes in the Bay are flats without balconies or gardens.

The Norwegian Church Arts Centre was a Lutheran Church, consecrated in 1868. Under the patronage of The Norwegian Seamen's Mission provided home comforts, communication with family and a place of worship for Scandinavian sailors and the Norwegian community in Cardiff for over a hundred years. Once an important landmark and meeting place for Norwegian seafarers during the industrial revolution it was also the church that hosted Roald Dahl's baptism.

CITO event:

Litter Pick event.
Time: 5.45pm-7pm Tuesday 21st September
Meet point at the posted co-ordinates, near the Norwegian Church.

Dependent on numbers we may run out of litter-pickers/ hoops so please bring along any helpful items you may have.
Please provide your own gloves if desired.

Credits:
Litter picking equipment has been supplied by "Keep Wales Tidy" (Maria Toogood)
Further equipment loaned by Cambrian Village Trust - Outdoor Activity Provision.(Gavin McAuley)
Further equipment loaned by Llantrisant Community Council (Alison Jenkins)
Litter gathered will be collected by Cardiff County Council after the event.

Parking:

Unfortuntely there is very little free parking around Cardiff Bay area. There are 2 Pay & Display car parks nearby, and also some Pay & Display roadside parking along Porth Teigr Way, please see parking waypoints.

Dogs welcome

The venue is wheelchair accessible.

Accessibility:

Wheelchair and Buggy friendly CITO.
The Bay area has been created as a safe and accessible space for all. CCC actively encourages the use of bicycles and as such, the area is well tarmaced, with dropped kerbs and alternative ramped access to stepped areas. Some areas of Brittania Park are grassed, but are level and well maintained.

Dogs (on lead) and children are welcome, though please be vigilant near the Bayside - the water is very deep.

Hope to see you there!

Please Note

There is an event scheduled for 4.30pm-5.30pm nearby (see below), however there is no requirement to attend both events.

If you are planning to attend the event beforehand (GC9FG7M Coffee Time @ Cardiff Bay) please can you log a WA so we have an idea of how many tables I will need to try to baggsie! Many thanks

The GAGB

The Geocaching Association of Great Britain (GAGB). The Association was established in 2003 to provide a national geocaching organisation and serve as a UK point of contact for geocachers, landowners, the media and others with an interest in geocaching.

As part of its 10th anniversary, it was decided to hold a CITO weekend in September which has now become an annual event. This later evolved into a full CITO Week, with the first one being held in September 2019. It would be great to see more of these icons pop up across the country and for other members to hold their own events where it is not feasible to attend one that a committee member has organised.

There is a lot more information about what we do, including the landowner database, comprehensive event listings and Seeker e-magazine at www.gagb.org.ukIf you would like to get involved follow the link and find our contact details.

The GAGB are encouraging everyone to organise CITO events this weekend, in part to pay-back for what we hope will have been a great summer of caching, and also to make things more pleasant for future cachers. If this CITO is the nearest one to you, please come along!

More information could well be announced, so either keep watch on the listing or log your 'Will Attend' to make sure you receive the announcement logs.
