Geocache Description:

01 January 2022, 09:00 - 19:00

This years event will be at Widgee Show Grounds, HQ will be the old Bushman's Bar Area. We have been here before and had great fun.

For the newbies to meet some oldies and learn a few new tricks of the trade.

This years event will be held @ Widgee Showgrounds, starting at 0900 on Saturday 1st January 2022 and finish at 1900 Saturday 1st  January 2022.

Recommend you bring your GPS or have the ability to use your phone off line for geocaching.

The Event is open to all players, new, old, young, in-between, seniors, 0 or 100000+
We have the use of the Show grounds. There are Toilets and Hot showers, Tables and shelters.

Camping for the event will be from Friday 31st December to Tuesday 4th January. If you wish to stay longer, that is not a problem, please let me know in you're "Will attend" log when you will be arriving and how long you will be staying.

Don't forget that this is country, phone reception is not the best. Although, there now is good reception around Widgee, but how far outside the town has not been tested. A safe bet is to BRING YOUR GPS.
There is also a new NBN tower for the area.

This event is primarily for the new Geocachers on the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay area (and anyone else that wants to travel) to meet up and learn the finer points about Geocaching. Like the last couple, I hope that the oldies will pair up with a Newbie and willingly give some coaching.

There will be several FTF draws for the newbies on Saturday..

Might add that there is a good mix of T/D's, Some are not recommended to do alone as there is a real risk of a misadventure occurring if one is a little inattentive to ones surroundings. None require the use of 4 wheel drive vehicles or special equipment, but recommend the use of only vehicles of medium to high clearance.except the new caches, suggest only 4 x 4 as the terain will 4+ for all.

This years cache hides will be in the surrounding country side to Widgee and other State Forests and National parks in the area. Hopefully, not a micro anywhere to be seen.
Don't forget all the caches that were placed for previous years event are still there and would love some more signatures in their logbooks.

Cache placement is open to anyone, please pick a day during the event for release and ask the reviewer for release on the evening of that day.

Anyone placing a cache, please contact me with the details, so we don't overlap, and the info can be given out on the day to the Geocaching Community attending.

Anyone with under 100  will qualify for the FTF draw.

For those camping over the weekend, there will be a small fee of $10.00 per night per campsite, a gold coin donation for those attending daily. This is to help cover the cost of the hall hire.

Dogs are allowed on to the Showgrounds, as lot of the caches are & will be in National Parks and State Forests. QPWS does not allow dogs. I would duly like to respect their wishes
A note for all dog owners, QPWS and Gympie Regional Council have placed a lot of 1080 bates (for wild dogs) around and in all State Forests in the Gympie and surrounding QPWS controlled locations.

BYO food and drinks, Although there is a local Store with food and fuel available.

There is plenty of good fresh water available.

There are several ways to get there, off the Wide Bay Hwy a short distance from the Bruce Hwy north of Gympie or East from Kilkivan and Woolooga.
Alternatively, from Gympie, cross over the Mary River at the Kidd Bridge, turn right to the Glastonbury - Widgee Road.
