Hey cachers, let's get together to kick some butt - cigarette butts!
Did you know that cigarette butts are the number one litter item found on shoreline clean ups across Canada? Yuck! The filters are made of plastic filament so they also contribute to microplastics in our ecosystem.
They *are* recyclyable though, through Terracycle.ca. All the butts we collect for this event will be sent to Terracycle for recyling, and $1/lb will be donated to a local charity.
TO PARTICIPATE:
- Meet at Kinsman park to pick up a pair of nitrile gloves and bag/container and then safely pick up butts on any sidewalks you can walk to from here! You are welcome to bring your own gloves if you prefer
- Masking is strongly recommended while in the vicinity of other cachers; this will be an anxious fall for many, let's do all we can to make it fun, safe and comfortable for each other
- We will take a group photo with all of the collected butts at 2pm sharp(ish)
Program accepted waste: All parts of extinguished cigarettes, cigarette filters, cigar stubs, outer plastic packaging, inner foil packaging, rolling paper and ash.
