Geocache Description:

Totadgin Rock is an inselberg, or “island mountain” surrounded by a nature reserve comprising of woodland. At the base of the rock is one of Hunt's Wells.

Charles Cooke Hunt, lead an expedition between January to October 1865 clearing a track some 500 km to the east, sinking wells at convenient intervals.

The wells were generally located at the base of granite outcrops, sites well known to Aboriginal people as sources of water. While most were fairly shallow, they often took up to a month to construct with their granite linings and timber poles.

Walking around the area you may find pieces of metal generally rusty and often twisted. They are here because at one time this quiet peaceful place was used to explode old munitions including mines and bombs.

A sign posted walking trail loop will lead you from the parking area, over the top of the rock, around the base and to Hunts Well. The cache can be found along this trail. For those not wishing to climb the rock, the walk trail can be undertaken anti-clockwise in order to find the cache.
