Fossils The geology of Crete is very extensive and we can discover a lot from the history of the earth. When Crete was formed at the time of the transition between Tortonian and Messinian, the tectonics seem to have stabilized. At the same time, a general countersink took place. In the Pliocene, marine sediments spread. What do we mean by a fossil?

 It is a testimony to a past life in the history of the earth. It is at least 10,000 years or much older. These are the remains of living beings or their traces. It can also be e.g. Act in footprints. The term "petrification" is also often used, but this is not synonymous, as not every fossil has been mineralized. Petrified marine life is often found on mountains. Why ?
