Per raggiungere il Castello di San Potito è necessario seguire il sentiero 11D (segnalato come rosso e bianco lungo la via).
Il percorso, partendo da San Potito, dura circa 10-15 minuti ed attraversa prima il paese di San Potito, poi il borgo antico (ora quasi completamente disabitato) risalente all'Ottocento (e molto affascinante).
Il dislivello è di circa 50-60 metri e la via è piuttosto semplice, tranne che per l'ultimissimo tratto per arrivare proprio all'entrata del castello.
Il luogo è di una bellezza mozzafiato.
NB La cache è situata in un luogo semplice e sicuro, quindi non avventuratevi fuori dal sentiero.
STORIA DEL CASTELLO:
Il castello di San Potito viene con molta probabilità eretto tra fine X e inizio XI secolo, come accade a tutti i principali castelli e torri della zona marsicana e fa parte di un complesso sistema di difesa in continuità visiva, che partendo dalla Torre di Santa Jona, prosegue con il castello di San Potito, il castello di Ovindoli, il castello di Rovere e quello di Celano.
Esso fu eretto dai Bonomo, antichi feudatari longobardi di San Potito, ora sottomessi ai conti Berardi di Albe.
Dopo varie traversie storiche che lo hanno visto passare di mano tra carolingi, normanni, borboni e napoleonici, il castello inizia a cadere in rovina all'Inizio dell'Ottocento.
La struttura, seppur diabitata rimane in piedi fino al terribile terremoto del 1915 che lo danneggia notevolmente.
Sono negli anni Duemila è stato riscoperto e la sua storia ricercata con maggiore attenzione.
