This is part of my Strange Fish series, which honors the peculiar and mostly unloved fish species of Wisconsin. I generally try to put these near where I've caught the species being recognized....putting the cache near the catch as it were. In this instance I had to compromise a bit due to access and overlapping geocaches....
The Channel Catfish is a delightful creature. It's hard to say just why we find its whiskered mug so appealing. Maybe it is a combination of the small amount of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn that resides in anyone with imagination...plus the same aesthetic sense that makes us smile when we see Pugs and other ridiculous canines.
Three generations of our family have fished just upstream from here and caught some nice "Cats".
This location has a drive in option if you approach it correctly. It is at the intersection of Hwy 53 and Business Hwy 29. If you approach on the Menomonie to Chippewa Falls vector it will be a right turn immediatly after you go under 53. Don't try pulling in here when driving the other way, i.e. from Chippewa Falls. There's plenty of Wrong Way signs. But you could drive past and turn around.
