Dick Van Dyke, original name Richard Wayne Van Dyke, (born December 13, 1925, West Plains, Missouri, U.S.), American actor and comedian known for his affable charm, comedic timing, and loose-limbed physical comedy. Turns out Van Dyke’s parents came to West Plains from Illinois in order to have the baby—because they weren’t yet married, and the Christa Hogan Hospital was one of the few hospitals at the time that would receive babies born out of wedlock. So Missouri has a small claim to Van Dyke, but he really grew up in Illinois.
