Welkom Traditional Cache

Random & not so random things I learnt during the making of this geocache.

• The sandstone border makes for a comfy seat. well as comfy as rock can be. It is always a good idea to watch out for ants.

• The surrounding area will most likely have plenty of those annoying little prickles, so cyclists beware.

• The welcome signs are the result of Western Downs Regional Council's Town Entry Signage project that began in 2016.
• Stage One of the project saw the rollout of welcome signs in Bell, Dalby, Glenmorgam, Jandowae, Kaimkillenbun, Macalister, Tara, Wandoan and Warra in 2017.
• $340,000 was allocated for Stage Two of the project; 16 communities were to get their new welcome.
• Stage Three of the project concluded in 2019 with the installation of the welcome signs in Miles.
• Construction of the welcome signs was by the same company that seems to construct similar signs Australia wide.
• Each town has a graphic symbol to capture its unique identity. Since Chinchilla is considered to be 'the melon capital of Australia', the welcome signs have a watermelon.
