At the turn of the 20th Century, much of central Camden County was part of a much-larger-than-now Clementon Township. In the 1910s and 1920s, tensions began to rise as the population of this town began to rise. Disagreements over how to divide resources in the township led to bitterness between different sections of town. Bitterness grew into warring political factions. Things grew to a boiling point over a 1924 bill to fund roads and schools, which didn't pass. How boiling was it? There were fist fights over the meeting!
This didn't go unnoticed, and one of the Committee members who doubled as the town tax collector knew this wasn't working. He proposed splitting the town into three new boroughs. The first would be made up of the sections known as Magnolia, Magnolia Heights, Somerdale, and Hi-Nella. The second of Lindenwold, Lucastown, Garden Lake, and Ambler Terrace. The final one would be Clementon Heights and Pine Valley. But Somerdale and Stratford both wanted Hi-Nella, and the whole plan went down the tubes.
Local people took matters into their own hands and, when the compromising and wheeling and dealing was done, Clementon Township had split into Lindenwold, Pine Hill, Pine Valley, Hi-Nella, and, where you are right now, Somerdale.
Cache is hidden in Somerdale Nature Park. Careful getting to the groundzone. Parks closes at dusk. Might need tweezers or a pin to get the log out of it's tube.
