“Ranger” - Capt Charles Vane’s ship
Pirate captain Charles Vane and his ship “Ranger” were infamous all across the West Indies between the years of 1716 and 1721. When Vane first operated as an independent captain in the summer of 1717 he started in a small 6 gun sloop named “Lark”, which was renamed “Ranger”. As Vane raided ships he traded up. In May 1718 he captured a twenty-gun French ship that became Vane's new flagship. In July 1718, a 12 gun brigantine that Vane captured became his new flagship “Ranger”.

Rend Lake is accessible year round. Some areas of the recreation area can be gated so you would have to park and walk to some caches. This is a USACE cache and is placed on property owned and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District.
