Geocache Description:

DO NOT GO TO THE POSTED COORDINATES! THERE IS NOTHING HIDDEN THERE!

Take a trip around the base and get to know some of the best players in 1930s National League.

You're solving for: N Aº B.C W Dº E.F

This is not a field puzzle. You should solve from home.

A = How many home runs did Mel Ott hit in 1936 season?

B = Add 1 to the number of Home Runs Wally Berger hit his 1930 rookie season.

C = Subtract 30 from Arky Vaughan batting average in his 1935 season.

D = Add 3 to the number of doubles Billy Herman hit across the 1935 and 1936 seasons.

E = How many hits Pepper Martin have in the 1934 World Series.  (PostSeason Batting)

F = Add 13 to Bucky Walters winning percentage in his MVP 1939 season.

Mel Ott was a quiet All-Star for the Giants and might have been the best player not to win a MVP award.  He his career average was over .300, hit 511 home runs, scored & drove in over 1,800 runs, and was good glove in right field that contributed to 3 Giant pennants.

Wally Berger played his best years with the Boston Braves and was usually their ONLY power hitter.  He often hit over 50% of Home Runs while playing for the defensive minded Manager Bill McKenzie.  Over a seven year period Berger hit 194 home runs and led the league with 34 in 1935, the year the Braves lost a 117 games.

Arky Vaughn was extremely underrated player who had a career On-Base-Percentage over .400 and playing quality Shortstop.  He did not win a MVP Award and it took until 1984 for his election to the Hall of Fame.  Most of his career he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates who unfortunately never won a pennant those years and he eventually got to play in the World Series with the 1947 Dodgers.

Billy Herman was long time All-Star 2nd basemen for the 1930s Cubs that won 3 pennants in the 1930s.  He had a career .309 hitting average, was considered the best Hit & Run batter ever, and the great glove at 2nd base.

Although not a Hall Of Famer, Pepper Martin left his mark on the 1930s by hitting lead off and giving them aggressive base running.  But really made Martin famous was his play in the Cardinals two World Series wins, in which he hit over .400 in 14 games.

And for the final value for the cache, we end with the 1939 Cincinnati Reds MVP Bucky Walters.  The Reds were mostly second division for all the 1930s until the hiring of manager Bill McKenzie in 1938 and made all kinds of changes to the team to shore up the defense and improve the pitching staff.  And no pitcher benefited more than Bucky Walters who won 27 games in 1939 leading the Reds their first pennant in 20 years.  And Bucky  was so good he even hit .325 with 16 RBIs.
