Geocache Description:

Related WEB page
The church of Zrin was dedicated in honor of the Virgin Mary, which was once a Franciscan monastery. The parish of Zrin was first mentioned by Archbishop Ivan in 1334, according to which the parish church stood on the site of the former Church of the Holy Cross and was destroyed in the war against the Turks in the late 16th century. It is also known to have been rebuilt as a Turkish mosque. The church, rebuilt after the fall of Eastern rule, was destroyed again in September 1943 when Serbian partisans killed 270 civilians. Today, only the walls and windows of the last edifice remain, where a statue of Mary watches the fate of the ruin in a small sanctuary near the former altar. And the pieces of scaffolding and tarpaulin suggest hope for preservation.(Google translate)
