Geocache Description:

About 10 m from the cache you will find a trig point of the Norwegian national geo grid (Landsnett), with a position determined with an accuracy of a few millimeters. The coordinates are UTM (zone 33) North 7564696.084 and East 439114.641, which translates to 68 11.359 013 31.888 in “our” degrees-decimal minutes notation. In the latter notation, one unit in the third decimal corresponds to roughly 1.85 m for the latitude (S-N) and 0.7 m* for the longitude (W-E) (*for N68°).

It is generally stated that mobile phones can have a deviation of up to 5 m under an open sky - although modern mobile phones are probably better than that - and a normal dedicated handheld GPS 2-3 meters. Clouds and rain, as well as nearby structures - natural or manmade, can make the deviation larger. This is an area of development, and there are rumors of future mobile phone chips capable of 0,5 m deviation.

Anyhow, at the trig point you may test your phone/GPS to your heart's desire; under various atmospheric conditions, number of satellites, including or not, the GLONASS (Russian), BeiDou-BDS (Chinese) and Galileo (European) satellites. Or, you could just enjoy the scenery!

Before placing the cache, the GPS was measuring the correct position of the trig point for about 20 min. This was a semi cloudy day and the deviation stayed within 1 m in this open space. When measuring the cache position the deviation was somewhat larger. The same position was obtained with the mobile phone, using GPS and other satellites, and the app indicated an accuracy of 1,5-2 m. The conditions were obviously very good that day.

Parking spaces are found east and west of the cache along the road.
