Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

As gone over in earlier caches in this series, one of the many games within the overall Geocaching game is getting and logging a cache daily, also known as maintaining a streak. This can be for a few days, weeks, months or years.

As one gets further into it, it can become quite the challenge as all the caches in one's area are found and now one has to go to further distances to keep their streak alive. There are also other factors like the planned "daily" turns out to be a DNF and one then has to scramble to find something else.

With that in mind, this serves as a backup for such times when one is needed yet none are nearby. If one is not on a streak, they can solve the puzzle and get it as well.

THE STARTING POINT

As you can see the above is a picture of graffiti on a railing. This was taken from a picture that is posted on Google Earth and is what your starting point will be. From that starting point you will do a projection to a point near a location of some historical significance.  As you likely are not yet aware of where your starting point is, the first action will consist of getting you there.

THE FIRST ACTION

Visit the 10 locations below to obtain the needed numbers for the coordinates:

  1. N38 46.189 W84 56.281
  1. N48 27.887 W111 21.775
  1. N24 43.828 W81 01.755
  1. N45 30.074 W122 39.861
  1. N40 10.410 W110 29.799
  1. N43 27.658 W72 58.837
  1. N44 35.835 W89 38.477
  1. N43 10.953 W72 27.556
  1. N43 07.723 W73 35.232
  1. N31 29.288 W92 37.126

Now that you have located your starting point,  you can proceed to the next action.

THE NEXT ACTION

Here is the information for you to use to do the projection:

The distance is the product of multiplying each of the 15 digits that make up the coordinates of the starting point plus 1931.40.

The degrees part of the projection is the sum of each of the digits that make up the coordinates of the starting point plus 19.83.

As to the unit of measurement, well, that is why  I chose that particular location as the starting point. A little research of the general area of the starting point should provide you with the unit of measurement, or you may just know what it is already which makes getting to the next action easier.

THE NEXT ACTION

Having done your projection, you will find yourself near a historically significant location. You will see that the location is at a "T" intersection.

Go across the street from the location to the northwest corner of the sidewalk, or as close as Google Earth will allow you to. Look down on the sidewalk at the corner and you will see a plaque in the sidewalk. Put the name of what is depicted in the bottom right corner of the plaque, if you were facing it, into the Certitude checker. If you enter in the correct keyword (just the general name of what is depicted, no “a” or “the”), you will be rewarded with the cache coordinates. Now all you have is the last action.

THE LAST ACTION

Go get the cache, or save it for your rainy day.

As always, if you need help let me know.
