Years ago this cache site area had a partial-cut timber harvest to clear the underbrush for fire protection and to enhance the health of the timber stand. For reasons unknown, someone in the Forest Service assigned the name Plain Nasty to the unit. Getting to the cache from the parking coordinates will take you through the unit. The short hike has its challenges and will require some bushwhacking, slash scrambling, and log walking. Along the way you will see orange bands that girdle "leave" trees. They were left uncut to grow to mature size for a future harvest while providing wildlife habitat, and seeds and shade for new trees. At the cache you will be rewarded with a view from Dirty Face to Sugar Loaf. Use caution as needed, and enjoy the adventure.
There is an inactivated TB for the FTF.
