Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches that get you to visit and see the community artwork that has been applied to some roadside network infrastructure cabinets.

Note that no physical caches are placed on or near the cabinets - you only need to look at them to gather the information you need.

Layout of the multi-cache

Like other multi-caches in this series the virtual waypoints are the locations of communication cabinets with community artwork on them. The final cache is in the general vicinity of them and not very well "connected" to the waypoints. While most of the series has 3 or 4 waypoints this one has just two.

Replacement of Original Waypoint

The original incarnation of this multi used the cabinet in Seaview Road which had this artwork on it by Kane Smith and Emily Roberts:

But that was getting worse for wear and looked considerably less colourful than the image above and the clear coat had all but peeled off. Unfortunately, in late October 2021 the cabinet was painted over in white. It was unclear at that time whether a new artwork would take its place one day but in the mean time that left this multi cache with only one other cabinet to visit.

There are other painted cabinets not all that far away (at least by car) but none in Paremeta. So the selected replacement is in the neighbouring suburb of Papakowhai. This would have formed a better cluster with the Ascot Park group but, alas, that cabinet was discovered after that multi was published depite it not being a new artwork.

By complete coincidence the new waypoint also features a frog. But it's much cuter.

The location of the final is the same as it was in the original incarnation - only the information required to find it has changed.

The "frog" cabinet in Seaview Road did eventually get some new artwork sometime in mid 2022 but rather than modify this multi again it will make an appearance in the Whitby West edition even though it is not quite in the suburb of Whitby.

The virtual way points

The waypoints can be visited in any order but the listed order is recommended as the final is closest to WP2. For historical reasons the pubished coords are at WP2 rather than the expected WP1.

WP1 A The number of "creatures" on the front of the cabinet.
B The number of pink petals in the water on the right hand door.
C The 4th letter of the artist's first name (e.g. A=1).

Because there is nothing really countable on the WP2 cabinet please determine , D, E and F from the 6-digit vertical number on the power pole a few metres to the right of the cabinet.

WP2 D From pole number; 2nd digit
E From pole number; 1st digit
F From pole number; 5th + 6th digit

The checksum for A+B+C+D+E+F=33

The final location

S41 06.ABC E174 52.DEF

If you want to verify your final coords: Check your solution

This used to be short walk from the now-gone waypoint but is now inconveniently distant from both of the waypoints which makes the whole thing seem ill-conceived. A bit of clambering is required at ground zero which is why the terrain rating is 2. Take extra care getting back down!

Please pick up the cache by its attached host rather than the container to avoid damaging the mounting mechanism.
