Geocache Description:

GOING BATTY #15

Welcome to my new Bat caches.  When I lived in Missouri during the summer of 2003, I worked at Ozark Caverns within Lake of The Ozarks State Park. Ozark Caverns has remained mostly natural as there is no lighting installed in the caves, which makes it a great habitat for bats.  I learned quite a bit about bats and wanted to create a few bat puzzle caches: the "Bump In The Night" for Snag The Tag is the perfect time to do it too.

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

Bat Fact #15

Icaronycteris index had a wingspan of 37 centimeters (15 in).  It has been dated to the early Eocene Epoch, and thought to have lived approximately 52.2 million years ago.  At the end of each of its first wing fingers was a claw. The species is believed to have hunted using echolocation, just like modern microbats.

The fossil gives few clues about how, or when, the forelimbs of bats first became adapted as wings. Paleontologists will have to find more fossils, particularly those dated between 50 and 66 million years ago, if they wish to solve this mystery.

Puzzle:
