Geocache Description:

*IMPORTANT* Molonglo River section *MUST READ* :

Welcome to the Molonglo River!

- This stretch of river has a large number of "Capital Paddle" caches hidden along it so I recommend you make a day out of it! Please read below before setting off, there is some important things you need to know!

- I have included four seperate parking coordinates, after cache #8 there is very limited river access, so it is advisable to make a day out of this series.

- Please be careful if there are powered boats using the Water Ski area. Access Canberra have confirmed with me personally that you are allowed to kayak on this section of the river, but advise that you are respectful and stick to the edge of the river and don't get in the way of any Water Skiers!

- Using the wind speed / direction to your advantage will be helpful, paddling into the wind can be tough and cost you more energy! This is also especially important for the tree fishing caches in the series as you will find there is an added level of difficulty attempting to tree fish whilst floating on the water. Picking the weather is crucial for a nice day out!

- Do not attempt any of these caches on foot. Majority of them are bordered by private land with the river corridor extending no further than the edge of the water. Majority of them are also hanging in trees either growing in the river, or hanging at head height whilst sitting in a watercraft, dangling several metres over deep sections of river.

- There are 3 tree fishing caches so bring a "fishing" / squid pole with a hook! You will most likely need a way to anchor yourself unless it is an incredibly still day. It is up to you how you do this, either with an anchor or possibly some teamates. Please make sure they are replaced as found and looped entirely over the branch nub to prevent them blowing off in the wind

- There are 2-3 free climbs. We say this, as one of these you could free climb, however safety gear is recommended.

- The final cache will require climbing gear. It is not possible to free climb this tree

- Read every description! They may provide a detailed hint, sometimes more than the hint section might

- We have attempted to suit all types of geocachers in this series! There are plenty to find of varying difficulty levels and tools required.

- We have put the more challenging caches towards the end of the series as they are less accessible so you can choose how far you want to go!

- Bring plenty of food, water, tree fishing pole (#18, #19, #23), climbing gear (#25), GPS / Phone and a large dry bag to keep your gear safe as your bound to get a little bit wet!

- Special thanks to Rapidlywild, StrangeTrousers and Sui_001 for their expertise / help in certain parts of this series.

- Good Luck! laugh

This Cache:

Not required to disembark your watercraft under normal water conditions. It is located on a lonesome dead tree in the river and should be an easy start to the series!

The Series:

This series was started in 2015 to encourage geocachers to go on leisurely paddles around our capital.

All cache in the series are rated as T5 and you will require some sort of watercraft to retrieve them.
