Geocache Description:

The years 2020 and 2021 will be remembered forever for the COVID-19 outbreak. They should also be remembered for being the year of the resurrection of the Mullet, when the hairstyle perhaps once forgotten once again became popular, especially amongst top-level NRL players.

In honour of the resurrection of the Mullet, we have placed a triple-wherigo canoe/kayak adventure on Mullet Creek, during which we hope you will create memories more pleasant than a COVID-19 lockdown and perhaps even more pleasant than the beauty of a luxurious mullet blowing in the wind.

The Wherigo cartridge can be downloaded from https://www.wherigo.com/cartridge/details.aspx?CGUID=d01cbc85-9a55-4686-a8e3-cd9cbe29742a - the website will say that the cartridge is inactive but it should be possible to download it anyway. There are three caches to collect as you paddle down the creek, all within the one cartridge. The cartridge will take you sequentially through three zones down the creek for each cache before providing you with coordinates for each geocache.

If you only feel like a short 1.5-2km paddle (return journey), you can turn around after mini-mullet. Middle mullet is approximately 4-5km return, while Mega-mullet is between 8-10km return. How far you travel down the creek is up to you.  It normally takes Roo_and_tribe about two hours to get all the way to Mega-Mullet and back. You may take longer or shorter depending on your fitness levels and choice of craft.

Mullet creek is an underrated pleasant paddle.  The tribe has seen Azure kingfishers, spoonbills, stingrays, fish jumping out of the water (presumably mullet) and the occasional person with a mullet jumping into the creek.  Enjoy your day on the water, but please be aware of the dangers involved.  At "The Full Mullet" location, wind and waves can be quite dangerous if you are not used to it.  Take care, know your limits, be safe, and wear a life jacket.

The background image is of Mahe Fonua, a West Tigers NRL player, demonstrating a fine example of a spectacular Mullet.
