This cache location reveals the first signs of the former activities in this peaceful valley. The giant piles of slate are called tips, and they are home to all the waste material that was extracted from beneath the ground.
This is the first of the quarries alongthe valley, called Cymerau. The expense books, held at The National Library of Wales reveal that this was not a profitable quarry. Most years, between 1867-1876 show that costs exceeded income.
