A Letterbox Hybrid geocache is a tribute to an older game played before the use of GPS technology. Known as letterboxing, containers were hidden with instructions on how to find them. Letterboxers carried a book and a stamp with them. Each letterbox container housed a stamp as well. When letterboxers found the container, they stamped their book to prove they had been there, and used their stamp to mark the logbook that remained with the container. The stamp and the logbook remained in the container as it was needed for the next letterboxer.
Do not remove the stamp, or the ink pad!
If either is missing, or if the ink pad is dry, please either message me or post a Needs Maintenance log indicating the stamp is no longer functional.
A letterbox geocache uses the same principle - geocachers find the cache and sign the log. With the addition of a stamp, the cache becomes a letterbox hybrid. VOILA! A letterbox hybrid can, therefore, be created from a traditional cache, a multi-stage cache, a mystery cache, or a Wherigo cache.
