This cache is located in Gooseberry Falls State Park, part of Minnesota's State Parks system located near the city of Two Harbors in Lake County, MN. Gooseberry Falls is the most visited State Park in the state of Minnesota, boasting over 750,000 visitors annually. Unlike most parks, certain areas of this park double as a rest area. As such, there is no cost for entry or parking in wayside rest lots (marked by "2 hour limit" signs). The Park is open daily from 8 A.M. to 10 P.M.

Instead of focusing on the crowded Gooseberry Falls, I decided to bring people out to a part of the park that is less traveled but still offers an amazing experience. This cache is located along the Gitchi Gummi trail, which is a 1.2-mile loop trail that will take you high above Lake Superior. It is a fairly easy trail with some short ascents. You'll first see glimpses of the winding Gooseberry River and lower sections of the park, but keep going and you will be rewarded with great views of Lake Superior. Don't forget to bring your camera - it feels like you're standing on the edge of an ocean from up there!
This cache is very near to a small established shelter and a scenic overlook with a bench. To maximize Leave No Trace efforts in the park, it requires very little bushwhacking - a few feet at most. That being said, it should still be hidden well enough to be undetected by muggles passing by. The container is a small plastic jar, and its location makes it available in the wintertime. There is no need to wander towards the edge of the cliff - you will not find the cache there. Have fun and stay safe.
