This Geocache will take you on a trip to the beautiful german colony!
History: The German Colony (HaMoshava HaGermanit) was established in Ottoman Haifa in 1868 as a German Templer Colony. It was the first of several colonies established by the group in the Holy Land. Others were founded in Sarona, The Galilee and Jerusalem.
The Templers, are religious Protestant sect formed in southern Germany in the 19th century, settled here at the urging of their leader, Christoph Hoffmann, in the belief that living in the Holy Land would hasten the second coming of Christ. The Templers built a colony in keeping with strict urban planning principles and introduced local industries that brought modernity to the area, which had long been neglected by the Ottomans. They were the first to organize regular transportation services between Jaffa, Acre and Nazareth, which also allowed for mail delivery.
Information Today: Today, The German Colony is a pretty, plant and light filled area. A great tourist spot with a lot of different restaurants, a mall (Make sure to grab something to eat while you're there! MULTI-STAGES:
1. Start at the coordinates. Time for some research! when was the German Colony Established? (According to Wikipedia) 18A8. Find out "A" and write it down.
2. Go up the road until your reach the I Love Haifa Sign. After taking a picture next to it [ Optional ofc :) ] Read the phone number under the projector and write the value of B and C down. 03-9BC8188
3. Keep going up the road until you reach "The German Colony Story". On the 25th of october 189D Kaiser Wilhelm disembarked at the special pier the Turkish Sultan ordered to be built in his honor at the edge of the german colony. Write down the value of D and keep walking.
4. Continue up the road. You will reach a Travel Agency. count the amount of letters on the BLACK SIGN ABOVE (Not including the "Tours") with the Agency's name.That will be E. Write down its value and solve the equation. (It has been noted to me that the "Tours" Sign has been replaced, but the amount of letters is still correct since the "Tours" part doesn't count)
