Imagine a simple number line containing the positive integers 1, 2, 3, etc., up to and including an end point. Consider two such number lines, each also including a sort of mid point.
For the first number line, the sum of the numbers less than the mid point will be equal to the sum of the numbers greater than the mid point, up to and including the end point. The number line ending in 8 with 6 as the mid point is an example; the sum of the numbers from 1 to 5 is 15 and is equal to the sum of 7 and 8. Now find another such number line that has 2-digit mid and end points. Once these points are found add the mid and end point values and treat that sum as a bearing in degrees.
For the second number line, the sum of the numbers from 1 up to and including the mid point will be exactly half of the sum of numbers from 1 up to and including the end point. The number line ending in 20 with 14 as the mid point is an example; the sum of the numbers from 1 up to and including 14 is 105 and that is half of the sum of the numbers from 1 up to and including 20, 210. Now find another such number line that has 3-digit mid and end points. Add the mid and end point values, multiple by 2, and treat the resulting 4-digit number as a range in meters.
Use these calculated range and bearing values with the posted coordinates to derive the location of the cache.
