GOING BATTY #64
Â
Welcome to my new Bat caches. When I lived in Missouri during the summer of 2003, I worked at Ozark Caverns within Lake of The Ozarks State Park. Ozark Caverns has remained mostly natural as there is no lighting installed in the caves, which makes it a great habitat for bats. I learned quite a bit about bats and wanted to create a few bat puzzle caches: the "Bump In The Night" for Snag The Tag is the perfect time to do it too. Â

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

Bat Fact #64
Â
Rabies and bats
Â
Bats can have rabies, but it is extremely rare for that to impact humans.
Â
The chance of getting rabies from a bat is very small — the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there are one or two cases a year in the U.S.
Â
Less than 1/10 of 1 percent of wild bats have rabies. A bat must be sick with the disease to pass it to another animal via a bite. Bats with the disease become progressively paralyzed. The mere presence of bats does not pose a health threat to humans.
Â
Any mammal can get rabies. Just be aware and don't handle sick animals without precautions.
