I was working in the area and had planned on riding the Coromandel Coastal Walkway and back over the hill via this Mountainbike Trail over the ridge.
I was warned that this track was steep, but I was not prepared for quite this steep, especially after a day of physical activity at work.
What made for a tough climb turned into a very quick downhill descent on the mountain bike, so I thought I'd place a cache to attract others to share the experience.
If you attempt this by bicycle, then (you are crazy!) I recommend using, (dare I say it) an E-bike, but the trail would not be suitable for a cruiser or city bike. Be aware, this is also a stock route on a working farm, so you may encounter stock and even farm vehicles on the track. If you are walking, then be aware of cyclists coming downhill, however, I can't imagine there being a lot of traffic up here - ever!
The cache is a Stainless Steel thermos flask at the summit of the track. You could reach it without getting off your bike, but you probably need to dismount for a rest and to soak up the stunning views anyway.
I'd love to see the view all year round, so feel free to share a photo of the views with your log.
