A geocaching event to channel your inner Fred Dibnah. At around 07.00 on Sunday 31st October, the Fawley power plant chimney is scheduled to be demolished by controlled explosion.
The 198m (650ft) tall chimney is a prominent landmark in our geocaching landscape and so I thought it would be nice to gather cachers together to see history in the (reverse) making. Meet on the beach at the posted co-ordinates.
Important to note:
- The exact time of the blast is clearly out of the EO's control, it's planned for around 07.00 but there's no guarantee. It's also weather dependant, so if you're planning to attend, please log a 'Will attend' and you will then receive any notifications.
- Some parking options are given. I've no idea how busy it will be so best to plan accordingly. There are no doubt other parking options with a longer walk in which may be more straightforward.
- Don't forget that clocks change at 02.00 on 31st Oct, back by 1 hour.
- Sunrise on 31st Oct is 06:56, so you may want to bring a torch for the walk in from parking.
