Farming in a semi-arid to arid environment requires lots of patience, determination, perserverance and pro-active thinking. Farmers must make many plans to survive in these conditions. Biltong is meat that is dried using salt and various herbs, curing the meat and preserving it for a longer time. Biltong therefore is an ideal way to preserve meat in this hot environment, allowing one to still have meat to eat when livestock and game aren't available anymore because of the drought.
This cache is located on such a drought-stricken sheep and cattle farm named "Weltevrede" (which roughly translated means "Good & Content") which became well-known for its biltong - therefore got the name "BiltongPlaas" (Biltong-farm). The farm is on the main route between Keemtanshoop and Luderitz (B4), situated nearly halfway between the two towns. The farm-owners decided to provide passers by a place to stop, rest, have some Biltong or something else to eat, and/or use the toilet facilities (there are very few public toilet facilities available on these long roads of Namibia).
The cache container is behind a farm gate - the farmowners and workers know about the cache and geo-cachers are allowed to enter through the farm-gate to access the cache.
