Marradi, le Castagne ed il Geocaching

Nascosta fra gli appennini tosco-romagnoli, la cittadina di Marradi si trova sul tragitto della ferrovia Faentina che collega Firenze con Faenza (e poi Ravenna) ed è particolarmente famosa per la sagra delle castagne che si tiene ogni anno nelle sue vie del centro durante il mese di ottobre. Oltre al marron buono e le varie torte e creme affini (la mia preferita è quella ricotta, miele e castagne), è possibile assaggiare anche varie altri piatti e cibi, come il la polenta al cinghiale, i funghi autunnali, le mele dell’abbondanza, daino e pietanze romagnole come la piadina, riempita di squacquerone e rucola o prosciutto crudo.
Proprio in corrispondenza della sagra del marron buono arrivano in due domeniche separate due treni storici, uno dal deposito di Pistoia, l’altro da quello di Ravenna, ognuno con locomotive a vapore (in realtà quello Da Pistoia cambia con una motrice Diesel storica a Borgo San Lorenzo). Esse sono rispettivamente designate con la numerazione 685 089 e 640 121 (da Pistoia arrivano anche la 741 120, 740 248, 625 100).
Nel centro di Marradi si può anche visitare il particolare Teatro degli Animosi, dedicato periodicamente a mostre artistiche, esposizioni micologiche, opere teatrali e lezioni di ballo e teatro. Nell’estate del 2021 sono finiti i lavori di riqualificazione del teatro, che è stato inaugurato in presenza del maestro Riccardo Muti.
Nella nostra famiglia andare a Marradi per questa occasione è una tradizione da molto tempo e pertanto ho deciso di dedicare questa cache a questa cittadina. Concludo indicando come sia molto carina anche la cittadina oltre il Passo Carnevale, Palazzuolo sul Senio, che nello stesso periodo ospita anch’essa una sagra autunnale, oltre ad alcune mostre permanenti.

Hidden among the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines, the town of Marradi is located on the Faentina railway route that connects Florence with Faenza (and then Ravenna) and is particularly famous for the chestnut festival held every year in its downtown streets in october. In addition to chestnuts and various cakes and creams based on it (my favorite is ricotta, honey and chestnuts cream), it is also possible to taste several other typical dishes and foods, like polenta with wild boar, autumn mushrooms, apples “of abundance”, fallow deer and Romagna dishes such as piadina, filled with squacquerone and rocket or raw ham.
In correspondence with the “marron buono” festival, two historic trains arrive on two separate Sundays, one from the Pistoia depot, the other from the Ravenna depot, each with steam locomotives (actually the Pistoia one changes with a historic Diesel engine in Borgo San Lorenzo). They are respectively designated with the numbering 685 089 and 640 121 (from Pistoia sometimes the 741 120, 740 248 and 625 100).
Furthermore, in the center of Marradi you can visit the particular Teatro degli Animosi, periodically dedicated to art exhibitions, mycological exhibitions, plays, dance and theater lessons. In the summer of 2021, the redevelopment works of the theater were completed and it was inaugurated in the presence of maestro Riccardo Muti.
In our family, going to Marradi for this occasion has been a tradition for a long time and therefore I decided to dedicate this cache to this town. I would like to conclude by pointing out how pretty the town beyond the Carnevale Pass, Palazzuolo sul Senio, is. Indeed, it hosts an autumn festival at the same time of Marradi, as well as some other permanent exibitions.
