Limestone is a sedimentary rock. The rock is mostly comprised of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) in the form of a mineral calcite, which is the skeletal remains of animals collected at the bottom of an ancient inland sea once covering this area of Iowa.
Limestone can be smooth, rough, colored white, to gray to pink and even contain fossils and fossil traces, called fossiliferous limestone.
Please send me the answers to the following questions before logging, and the required photograph.
Q1. What type of rock is limestone?
Q2. Do you see signs of erosion?
Q3. Do you see fossils or fossil traces in the stone?
Q4. Describe the texture, color and formation of the limestone cliff.
