History of Location:
On the day of the 16th of March 1942, the Liberator AL.577 aircraft crashed into the hills of Annaloghan, Jenkinstown, Co Louth during the Second World War.
The AL.477 took flight from Egypt in transit towards the United Kingdom and to land at RAF STN HURN, Dundalk, Co Louth. During flight, orders were given to return to base due to bad weather conditions. The pilots continued and met their final location on Annaloghan mountain. Their plane crashed into the mountain due to poor navigation and visibility. Evidence suggests that the cause of the plane crash was due to the disobedience and bad navigation of the pilots on board. Out of 19 occupants onboard, 15 were killed and 4 were injured. A memorial plaque was erected and a couple of parts from the reckage still reside on the mountain.
Geocache:
Once near the location, you will need to cross over marsh land to the bottom of a large pile of rocks, where you will find the memorial plaque. Once there, you can start the search for the geocache.
